General Technical Features

Equipment

​ENGINE-ALTERNATOR unit assembled on a chassis of steel profiles, electrically welded and structured with stiffening brackets with lateral holes for the charge/discharge. Bearing brackets under base, 100 mm height with holes for the gen set fixing to the ground. All components are painted with epoxy powder (with electrostatic system), which allows a high resistance to the scratching and to atmospheric corrosive agents. In open type Gen Sets the control panel is placed on special brackets fixed to the base; in sound-proofed Gen sets it is placed inside the canopy, and fixed to it with special shelves to insulate it from the engine’s vibrations.

Coupling System

The engine is connected to the alternator tightly and coaxially, crankshaft and alternator shaft are connected by a semi-rigid coupling.

Vibration-Damping Supports

Vibration-damping supports are assembled between the engine-alternator unit and the chassis to minimize any vibration of the gen set. ​

Fuel Tank

The generator set is equipped with an incorporate fuel tank of 100 liters, made of 3mm electrically welded steel sheet and stress-tested. The fuel tank is completed by:

• 2” hose (with cap) for the manual filling of the tank
• Engine feeding connections
• 1’ ¼ connection for exceeding fuel level
• ¾” connection for loading from external pump
• Variable resistance level switch
​• Containment tank with level switch for leaks detection

Exhausting Gas Silencer

The machine is equipped with an industrial silencer for exhausting gas which grants sound abatement of 38dB(A) at 7 meters, complete with flexible joint.

Water Oil Topping Out to the Generator Set

The generator set is equipped with coolant into the radiator (water + anti-freeze), for temperatures of –30°C; +50°C and with lubricating oil SAE 15/40 into the crankcase sump.

Functioning

OFF / RESET:
Engine start inhibition, with forced control of load supply from the Mains. When the engine is running and the selector switch is turned to the “OFF-RESET” position, the engine shut-down sequence is activated. Switching the selector to “OFF-RESET” position allows to unlock all the failures which caused the engine to stop.

MANUAL:

Only engine manual START and STOP controls are enabled. All Gen. Set protection devices are activated, and the START control is automatically disabled when the engine is running.

AUTOMATIC:

The generating set starts automatically when some line voltage malfunction should occur (parameters values can be programmed according to the user’s needs). Once the engine runs and reaches the nominal values of the rating rpm and tension, the generator is immediately inserted to run. Once the voltage is back and after checking its regularity, the generating set is automatically disconnected. After a cooling pause the engine is switched off, ready for next intervention. Moreover, it is possible to connect or disconnect the gen set through a remote connection (to be used f.i. when the switching is external). All the engine / gen set protections are activated. In case of the engine non-starting, acoustic and visual alarms will start, and the set will be blocked.

TEST:

Manual operation to check the right functioning of the gen set. When in “TEST” position, the control unit commands the starting of the gen set, and activates the protection of engine and alternator. The switching stays in Mains position. After a cooling pause the engine is switched off, ready for next intervention. Should the voltage be missing from the mains during the “TEST”, the gen set connects automatically.

PROGRAM:
​This mode can be used to set the parameters needed and is normally locked by a password. - Periodic Weekly Test. The periodic weekly test (scheduling must be programmed by the user) allows to run a functional test every week at the established time, automatically and without the need of an operator.  

Tools

Control unit with 128 x 64 dots display backlit and with touchscreen, which allows to visualize the following tools:
• Three chained tensions. mains and generator.

​All the Mains tools (V, A, Hz e kW). are visualized at the same time in the same screen. Pushing the arrow button, all the gen set and engine tools are visualized. Should a failure occur, the display will show the corresponding message.

Gen Set Engine Protection

The operator will know when some failure occurs thanks to the acoustic and visual signals, which will also remain active if the failure is cancelled.
​
Should a failure occur, the control unit will operate the following steps:
• disconnect the gen set load from the voltage and set the unit for the connection to the Mains;
• Stop the engine;
• Inhibition of the gen set automatic re-start;

​Once the gen set failure has been solved, selecting “OFF/RESET” will restore the gen set functions.

Sound Proof Canopy Type INS68

IVM Sound Proof Panel:

​The sound- proofing cabin INS68 has been conceived and tested to allow the perfect run of the Gen set in any working condition. Much attention has been given to air aspiration and expulsion, as the good efficiency and reliability of the gen set can be granted by a good ventilation of the engine-alternator block. Its structural and mechanical qualities make it more efficient, allowing an easy assembling and disassembling of the various components, along with the sound-proofing qualities.

Structural Part

​The cabin is made of panels which get assembled among them and fixed to the base. Each panel is made by press bent and electro welded 2mm thick steel sheets. The fixing is made with galvanized steel bolts; the Gen set can be lifted using the 2 rings mounted in the upper part or the hooks in the lower part of the base.  

Painting

​All the elements part of the cabin are painted with epoxy powder (with electrostatic system), assuring a high resistance to scratching and to atmospheric corrosive agents. Before being painted all the components are washed and pickled in special tanks to get cleaned and degreased; there they undergo a polymerization process into an oven at 180 °C for 20 minutes.  

Sound Proof

​The steel panels are insulated by mineral wool (class “A1L” of fire reaction) completely fire proof, unalterable, with 40 to 80 mm thickness and 80 kg/m³ density. Each single mineral fiber has a diameter of 5-6 µm; this material isn’t toxic for air, water of ground and preserves its qualities until the reaching of the fusion point over 1000 °C, following DIN 4102-17 directives. A protective film of glass fiber is placed on the outer side to avoid the enervation of the mineral wool. A zinc steel, micro-drilled and micro-ironed, 0,8 mm thick plate is used as a further protection of the insulation and of parts in close contact with the operator. The level of the remaining noise is of 68 dB (A) measured in free space at a distance of 7 mts.  

Ventilation

​The openings at the sides allow perfect ventilation, as air flows from both sides of the cabin. Inside the generator, air is canalized by special flow switches which direct it towards vital elements such as the filters of aspiration air engine and cooling systems of alternator and engine. The flow switches have internal sound absorbing material, which absorbs the noise thanks to their particular conformation. The hot air coming from the cooling system of the gen set will go through a channel made of sound absorbing material which muffles the noise. The air is pushed out from a single opening on the back of the cabin and it can’t swirl back thanks to the interior panels packing the inside part of the machine. Special grids deflect the rain, protecting the holes of air aspiration/expulsion. These specifications allow to grant the needed air intake for the engine / gen set cooling, as the depression inside the canopy is always of 0,8 mbar.  

Gen Set Inspection

​The cabin is equipped with doors on sides so that the gen set can be easily opened, checked and maintained. Besides the insulation and the sound proof system, each door is also equipped with: - steel inox hinges - steel inox steel set up right close, each one with its key to be locked - trimming to grant the acoustic tight and prevent the blow-by of the rain The Gen Set inspection is made easier by vertical partitions inserted in drawer-shaped boxes, easily removable to allow cleaning and inspection/maintenance. 

Exhaust Gas

​The exhaust gas is expelled via a residential noise-abating exhaust pipe, placed under the engine hood. The expulsion system is designed specifically for each engine and is composed of: - noise-abating exhaust pipe; - flexible clamp between the engine collector and the exhaust pipe to grant the joining; - fixed clamp on the cabin to hold the exhaust pipe.
